Good:
Got a little message from Paul Penner today in regards to the job appication. He seemed impressed with my experience, but is waiting until the application deadline to make further contact. Bad thing: job was posted in the bulliten meaning more people might have read it.
The 102 class tonight was sooo boring, but dumb enough that we only had 5 minutes of tutorial time which meant I WAS ON TIME FOR THE SUZUKI LECTURE! WOOT! I had been so mad at this class for the conflict, but since I was already in Douglas Wright Engineering, and the overflow (free) section was in Rod Coutts Hall (right next door) I made it on time/early for the lecture to start! Hooray! It was a very informative evening, rounding off three days of informative evenings: watched "The Corportation" Monday, and went to a lecture on the Holocaust with Steven Katz (renouned scholar/authoritarian on Judaic studies).
Bad:
Mom emailed Wednesday/Called today. Grandma may not make it much into next week, if at all. I made the executive decision to hold off going to sno camp in light of this information and the issue with studying/paper work I need to work on over the next few days before Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday. If everyone could pray for my mom's family, and me I guess too, that would be greatly appreciated. I'm still going home Thursday night after a very busy day.
Ugly:
So many assignments, soo much studying to do, etc. Yikes. I'm going to need a miracle of a time committment not particularly accustomed to me in the next few days.

ACH- Robbie Burns Day
Was going through a thing today after dinner with a fellow scotish lass, got me interested.
PRINGLE: The earliest form of the name was Hoppringle, or Hopringill, and such remained the norm until the mid-16th when Pringle became more popular. However, it should be noted, the chiefly house retained the old form until its demise in the 18th century. The name was derived from lands near Stow in Roxburghshire where it is first noted when Robert de Hoppryngil witnessed a charter granted in the reign of Alexander III (r.1249-86) to the Hospital of Soltre(Soutra). In the 14th century the family were close allies of the Earls of Douglas, to whom they were squires, and about the end of that era they are first defined as Hoppringle of that Ilk, holding the lands of Earlside in Lauderdale. Descendants were much in evidence at the Courts of James IV and V - at least two being trumpeters in the tail of James IV and one falling at his side at Flodden in 1513. For 100 years, from about 1489, a succession of Pringle ladies, usually younger daughters, were Prioresses of the Convent at Coldstream. The association of Pringles with the woollen industry may first be traced to 1540 when one of their name held the responsibility for overseeing the shearing, storage and transportation of the wool from the King's sheep. In 1592 various Pringles appeared before the king, with other Border lairds, giving an oath to faithfully serve the Wardens of the East and Middle Marches, and evidence of their extended land-holdings is shown by no less than six cadet families standing surety, one for the other, in keeping the peace. Five years later, Pringle of that Ilk and Pringle of Smailholm subscribed to a Bond of Manrent, taking it upon themselves the burden of ensuring the good behavior of Pringles in general. The last Pringle of that Ilk died in 1737, after which the principal family became the Pringles of Stitchill, the lands of which were acquired c.1630. Of this latter House, Sir Robert was created a Baronet of Nova Scotia in 1683 and, although the lands have now passed to others, the Baronetcy has survived into the 20th century. A trait among later members of this line is a frequent use of hyphenated fore-names. Pringle families have been traced to Fife and Moray, as well as Ireland and South Africa, but all genealogical evidence points to their having descended from ancestors whose roots were firmly established in the Borders.
I want to legally change my name to Hoppryngil. That would be uber cool
THis site has some cool things, along with the above discription.

Umm...
So yeah. I haven't been blogging much this week. Not for any lack of time, but rather for lack of any good story telling. Combined with the thought that no one is reading this anymore. I keep trying to advertise where ever possible, but it doesn't catch on.
This week has gone by sort of slow. I returned Monday morning from a weekend at home, but by Wednesday, it already felt like enough time had gone by that I hadn't been home in a couple weeks. I also thought that it was Thursday, even though I had a night class (only on Wednesdays, duh) and chapel/commie supper.
I have no idea what I'll do this week as far as church goes. I may wake up early enough to catch a bus, I may not and just walk over to first. Who knows.
Things to think about:
- talking to academic advisor about taking the year off.
- going back on msn, not because i miss being on it, but because I have lost connection with the outside world and I'm all disoriented. Don't expect previous time committments though, I have a busy schedule.
- where to work in the summer. Saw a job posting for summer janitor at Grebel. I think I might talk to Paul and see what kind of deal it is. If food is included, I may jump on it, and stay at Jane's again. On the other hand, if room AND board is included, I may have to do it. Weekends off, partying with off-streamers, summer in the city? who knows. I don't mind cleaning up after students and kids... not much different from camp, but $4000 more. Hmm. Will talk to Paul next time I see him.
- Busy weekend ahead. Lots of reading to do. Going to start a paper too. Should be fun.
-Grebelwear design. Came up with something interesting, but implimenting the idea is difficult. Bread with bite marks spelling Grebel is hard to draw.
Mmmkay, going to download MSN now.

The best part about this comic is knowing that some things make this number seem smaller if you account for relatives, married people, newborns-midteens, and over 30 people (well, over 25... giver take)

Weather related...
What a nasty day. I'm not too sure what went on this morning, but I'm wondering if I woke up at 3/6 am due to the weather conditions. It was apparently pretty stormy and at one point the freezing drizzle came and made a nice layer of black ice. I had to be up semi-early this morning anyways because a) I wanted to pick up my planning hoodie (sweetness) and b) I was helping out with Tsunami Fundraising and manned a booth at Grebel this morning from 10-11. Now I realize why lunch came so quickly after that. (Lunch is 11:30). The walk over to ES, SLC, and back to Grebel was much fun, actually the best part of it was sliding down the hill from Grebel, because it was all ice and you could slide a fair distance.
Since it was raining, I didn't really want to venture out to my 1:30 class, but I did anyways, and took my umbrella just in case in got really nasty out. ENVS 178 is nice in that it goes in 3 one hour blurbs throughout the week, so it feels so short. On my way back from class, I realized that everyone else walks really slowly, so it's not fun to walk with people. Instead I just walked on ahead, I wasn't staying with the group anyways. I came back to my room, edited Ryan's little "Introduction to an autobiography" piece for PLAN 102, set my alarm for 4:20, turned on some Enya to get me sleepy, and then took a nap. Unfortunately the Enya music overpowered my alarm and thus I slept through the alarm and missed the first part of Chapel. Shoot to that! I had really wanted to go, and instead I slept. Dumb old me.
Community [AKA Commie] supper was pretty good tonight. I ate SALMON! FISH! Wow. It wasn't actually all that bad. I think the problem I have with fish is that the stuff that my mom always gets is the frozen kind that has a kind of RANK smell that makes it not appealing and so I never try eating it. But mom, if you get fresh salmon from Zehrs fish department, I may eat it again. (I think it was of the smoked variety also). There were also Student's Council speeches for VP. All three made me giggle. Robin Bashk has such a history at Grebel that he had on at least 6 tee-shirts from various terms that he has lived/been an associate at Grebel. I think I'm going to vote for him because he's got that sense of responsibility and a good working knowledge of all things Grebel. He was also one of the people I remember meeting first here, since I met him during one of the visit days for Off-Campus Residents/Residents (I also remember meeting Jeremiah, but feel bad because the two girls I also met, I didn't remember, but they apparently remembered me (we had this discussion yesterday at supper.
The other two speeches were from Heidi Lepp, who did a rendition of Twas the Night Before "Speeches". It was well rhymed. And then she mentioned something about Chopsticks and food, but then proceeded to play Chopsticks on the recorder with Shannon Baker. That was a hoot. Third candidate was Josh Willms who pretty much did a stand up comedy act, which I enjoyed, but found that there was no really point to, so, er.. yeah.
Then the fun (?) began whilst going to PLAN 102. I'm already severly not enjoying the class, and I think Andrew B summed it up best when he noted that in a course on "Professional Communication" you'd think the teacher would be able to communicate with the students better, and that there wouldn't be dumb conflicts, like which rooms the tutorials are in (QUEST WAS right!) and other such nonsense. I think that the other day when I had my tutorial, there was another class waiting outside, confused, because we were in their assigned room. Also, we were talking about the word "Riding" today in class and were asked to look it up in a dictionary. I didn't even need to, but I think the point was to know that it was both a verb and a noun. Wow, so shocking. Okay, so I didn't know the origin or that it was only used in Canada, but I still knew that a riding is a political electoral district. The assignment we got is pretty dumb too, but I think I can finish it before the weekend. Otherwise it's just another thing to do.
Tomorrow:
8:30-10:30 - ES Coffee Shop training session/work. Should be fun. I've never worked with people's money in a service industry before.
in between... reading in the coffee shop maybe?
11:30-4 Classes: PLAN 103, PACS 202, GEOG 101
4-4:30 Run back to Grebel and drop off useless stuff, head back to ES with camera and stuff for 178.
4:30-5:30 - ENVS 178 Lab. Apparently - intro to Excel. wooopiee
5:30-6:30 - CIP/OPPI info session. Free pizza for me!
Go back to Grebel, eat a second supper - meatloaf!
9 or 10 or something like it: CSI! woot! what a way to end the day!
Sleep
Friday: Reading, 178, WCF or HOme, depending on Jenn's availability.
Saturday: for sure home, but most likely in Hamilton to watch Cecilia play "Tim Horton's Hockey" at the Bulldogs game (can't wait!)
Sunday: Home/Church/At the Bakers!)
Sunday or Monday morning, depending: Back in the Loo, class at 1:30.
This is just so y'all know why I don't post until like saturday night or maybe Friday afternoon, who knows.
Hooray for getting up early!

Sunday Blahs
Reading. Thats basically a summary of what I did today. After lunch, I read until supper, after supper, I read until 11ish. Now I feel like reading some more. Am I lame or just on a roll? I figure I can finish this weeks material in another two hours of solid, uninterrupted reading time.
Todays hi-lights: laughing with the older crowd, being the one who was most concentrated on their reading, but still managing to listen to everything that was going on around me. I'm weird. Okay going to read more stuff, cause thats what people who don't go on msn for hours at a time do these days.
I finished a book for pleasure today too, that was good. Started it Friday. Well, re-started technically, but from the beginning, so it's all cool.
Thoughts about taking a year off, maybe extended time in the north? Who knows.
Comment muchly.

True Love...
Is the taste of a white chocolate kit-kat crunchy after 6 months of their disappearance from stores. Seriously. Today was the luckiest day of my life, just because I found one in Farah Foods. Sigh, why did they stop selling them?
Grebel ski trip is today and everyone is gone. Luckily I'm going to WCF tonight, otherwise I'd be doing some sort of movie marathon. I'll find SOMETHING to do, for another couple hours before supper.
Peace out.

Am I behind or ahead?
It's hard to differentiate, especially when all your classes with heavy readings are on the same days. I caught up this morning on the readings for today's classes. The thing that made the least amount of sense was the readings I had to do for Tuesdays class for PLAN 103 - how do you read in preparation for a class when you don't yet have the syllabus for the course? Crazy ideas of the Associate Dean.
Now I'm stuck at this point where I'm not sure if I want to read more or not. I don't really have much TO read, at least not until Monday at the earliest. And also, since when is a grammar reference guide a readable textbook. I have to read chapter 10 of this Ready Reference Handbook. Although, now looking at this thing I realise it will have it's benefits, there are sections on both MLA and APA styling, and since I'm not absolutely familiar with APA, this book will be my second less-read yet more educationally practical bible. Note the small b.
Walking in between classes is a good thing. Well, minus all the slush that was on campus today. I got to thinking as I passed the many fine people that were walking on the path between the Math Building and South Campus area. I realised, heck, if I'm here for an education, why am I even trying to think about romantical possiblities. This may also be a result of my considerations of such courses as PACS 202, where it seems like I am the only first year student, and therefore the youngest in the course. The other day in our discussion throughout the class I was in a group of three girls and myself, and two of the three had at some point changed majors, one of whom had just transfered from Guelph, and the other was in 3rd year. Today's group seemed no different, with talks of my group mates being in other PACS courses or just the feeling of wisdom that comes with age and more learned experience.
There of course is one downside to this train of thought, and that is: Grebel people. They're just too nice, too friendly, and in some cases, too cute and likable. Sigh. I need to get out of here sometime this weekend so as not to be distracted. Maybe I'll venture over to Dana Porter and start on some research, or to ES Computing Lab and work on some of the ENVS 178 (Stats) Labs.
The labs look fairly basic. I mean, how hard is it to do things in Excel? Not hard at all really, after all the computer courses, accounting, and oter random ones I took in highschool, it shouldn't be hard to do these ones. I think they even give instructions. I'm a even more disappointed with PLAN 102 once I went to one class. Not only was it totally confusing to be told that you are being split up for pointless tutorial sessions during the lecture time, but there are discrepancies between what informations Shipley is giving us on locations vs. Quest information. I really hope that in the end Shipley is totally wrong and gets kicked out of some of the classes he thinks he has booked. Muah ha ha, I would laugh so hard.
Otherwise today was a good day. I took a bagged lunch to PLAN 103 today, and it seemed that all Prof. Seasons had on his mind today was repeating himself, making fun of Erin (the town), and eating. He came up with many different ways of solving the problem of having a class that runs from 11:30 to 12:50, but I like the idea of him buying Pizza, that would be grand. I had a ginormous rice krispy square in my lunch today. Adam pulled one that he had out of a little bag, and I made a visual reference to mine being a monster and smashing the little one to bits. It was funny. Almost like all those "compensation based on size" jokes you hear. Seasons was hungry and was eating some chips, Ryan got some just by making a comment about wanting chips too. Seasons has a strange sense of humour. So does Shipley (102). Although Shipley's is kinda dumb, like saying that assignments written on a friend's head will not be accepted
[side story: I shaved my hair down to a low cut yesterday afternoon and people were amused with my hair, Dave D. decided to draw an 8 on my head, Shipley saw this and seriously stared while trying to come up with something funny to say, then finally came up with something and approached]
*Deep breath*
So right now I'm skipping out on the Frosh Coffee house - if you can call it a "frosh" coffee house, maybe it's just a free for all. I really don't want to go, cause a) don't feel like a coffee right now, I had a hot chocolate earlier; and b) I don't want to fall asleep out of boredom. I realise now in thinking about Grebel social events that I still haven't recovered my scarf that I forgot at the Banquet/Dance. Apparently it was in the Lost and Found, but I can't find the lost and found. Maybe tomorrow I'll check at the front desk. I have to inquire about my computer situation anyways, just to make sure that everything is honky-dory with my machine set up as-is.
Wow it's been a while. I just put in Moby - Play. Haven't listened to this CD for a good couple of years. Me and my fear of other people's opinions. If I like Moby I should listen to it. And I will, with the volume slightly decreased. I don't REALLY need to take advantage of loud hour anyways.
Well, gonna go read some more of the Human Geog (GEOG 101) textbook, probably for another hour or so before bed. I only have 178 tomorrow, so in reality I can skip the morning, eat lunch at any time before going to class, and then have an hour of that, then... who knows? more reading perhaps?
Tomorrow is also the first Waterloo Christian Fellowship Large Group of the term. Maybe this term I'll get to be a little bit more involved in the social life of the group. Thank goodness for being on campus.
OH, also Ran into Ruth today. We both seemed to be on our way in opposite directions after a class, so perhaps this could become a Thursday meeting (and maybe tuesday if the schedule is that similar like mine always seems to be.

Getting Adjusted
Well, all moved in. Things seem in order around here, maybe. Ben and I both said we had trouble sleeping last night. I just couldn't get comfortable. So it was a short sleep. Last night I joined a crowd of people to watch King Arthur. I didn't like it at all. It was a load of craziness and the plot was sketchy, not to mention the narration that was added in the start and end, and maybe somewhere in the middle, was rediculous and didn't really make sense. One thing I did like was the "fireworks" (flamming arrows... a nice touch).
This morning I decided to pick up all of my books for classes and such. There were lines a plenty, but i fought through the crowds and managed to get done fairly quickly. I'm still confused though because my Conflict Resolution course still has no book listed. I guess I'll find out the meaning of that when I get to class today. I realised today in looking at my schedule that i have 3 one and a half hour classes tuesday and thursday. I mean, it's nice to get everything out of the way at once, but this also seems... long and boring. I'll see how in works out today. I also forgot last night to check about signing up for lunches and stuff, so I'm going to grab something from Tim's between my PLAN and PACS courses. That puts lunch at... 1ish. Ouch.
Hmm.. it appears that Ben is in a similar situation, but his classes start a bit earlier than mine and don't go as long. OH well, we'll not be around much save in the evening. It's really quiet around grebel right now. People are either waiting to get up, running around buying books, in class, or not around. It was weird that not many people seemed to get here yesterday. I still haven't seen a bunch of people that should be around. Hmm.. don't even see some people listed. Thats weird.
Anyways... I'm really bored. I should have taken longer getting my books or something cause that took up time. Or gotten up a bit later. That would have taken up time too. Oh well.

Back to School, Back to School
Today is my last full day at home for the holidays. Thank goodness. I enjoyed my time at home, a little bit. It will be nice to get back to a regular schedule of stuff to do, things to read, papers to write, etc. I think it's pathetic on my part though, I am really having troubles remembering people's names. Going back will suck for that. My memory is shot.
I just realised my fly was undone. When did that happen? Oops. Anyways. I'm definetly wanting to get out of Caledonia. It's also going to be fun moving in, maybe. I'm mostly packed, which is a plus!
Thats all for now.
